MEETING FORMATS ARE KEY TO SUCCESS

We have achieve excellent results with a very carefully designed format for our meetings - whether in person OR online:

- small groups (max 8) create the necessary trust, openness, and interaction

- groups include all stakeholders in the problem

- conversations (rather than discussions) aim at sharing information and increasing

understanding of other's points of view

- no formal presentation in groups

- moderator is not a stakeholder and not part of the conversation (but keeps notes)

- atmosphere: informal, relaxed

EXAMPLES

14 people participated in a discussion about a soical restructuring project.

A brief presentation on the subject on the agenda was given in plenum. Participants then broke away into two groups of 7 for deep discussions. Halfway through the program, half of the participants in the to groups shifted to the other group and had conversations about another aspect of the issue.

Facilitators in both groups kept notes and the two group gathered in plenum to share experiences

FEED BACK from participants

- "I've never had a conversation with a scientist about this issue. It was eye opening"

- "Totally inspiring to meet people of completely different background."
